CityNet has given us the opportunity to communicate locally without having to worry about bandwidth. To highlight this, work on the MalarNetCity vision got under way in autumn 2004. The city portal would demonstrate the benefits of a fast network.
MälarNetCity was pre-launched on the 17th Sept 2004 before 200 invited representatives from the city council, shopping, media, cultural, entertainments, sports, schools and other organisations.
MNC the first edition
At end February 2005, the portal was launched and since then it has been a construction site undergoing constant change – just like a real city.
MalarNetCity is not just aimed at those who already have CityNet. The city portal is open to everyone in Västerås and its neighbouring region, irrespective of connection type.
The Sunrise in MälarNetCity was a part of the public launch.
